Public Use and Knowledge

Why does this matter?

With the different types of propaganda being utilized during the 2020 election, it is important for the public to be able to view why these different types work and how they affect the average person. With two differing sides being Joe Bidens campaign as a defensive view, and the Lincoln Project being more in a more offensive position, there is much that can be learned from one but not the other.

By using the measurements, we can examine, or at least hope to, these campaign ads without personal bias and see them for what they are at their core.

The Joe Biden video is an example of the defensive tatic as it exists to be a posisitive light on the circumstances and does well with it's intended audience. It plays on the emotions and heart of the intended audience, and is a vague thank you and promise to the voters of that party.  The video clearly supports Joe Biden as candidate and pushes for that end goal.

The Lincoln Project video shows where the offenive tatic opens a door to insults and misinformation, but also has a much more direct message and call to action for those viewing the video. The video does not directly endorse or support Joe Biden till the end of the video, which shows that support of him is not the message of the video, but just the end goal of the entire project.

Moving forward into future elections, especially if cross party campaigning happens in situations like the Lincoln Project, is important to understand how the audience and the public will view these pieces of propaganda media. The measurements used to measure these two videos can also help identify how and which party is creating the propaganda, and what the intended message is supposed to be.
