Abstract
Alternative energy sources have pushed previously existing sources into the background and have provided a solid foundation for research and development of new types of energy sources. Global trends indicate that people are more inclined to accept alternative energy sources, especially solar energy, because they keep the environment clean by not polluting the air and water. Solar energy is a naturally abundant source of renewable energy which can be used to generate electricity. The present technologies continue to improve day by day, focusing more and more on solar energy improvement of current equipment and development of new methodologies and techniques to capture, collect, and store energy. Solar energy has been in the market for many decades, yet it is only accounted for 1% of the world's total energy consumed. The materials used to collect, convert, and store solar energy are expensive, hard to recycle, and must have a very high grade of purity to efficiently achieve their functions. The short life expectancy of Solar cells of 30 years and the low efficiency of 33% have contributed to the low overall adoption of the solar energy in the world. The purpose of this research project is to make solar energy collection, conversion, storage, and manufacturing costs more accessible to a wider range of consumers using the Collective System Design Methodology. In addition, the poster will illustrate the system design decomposition that will assist in further improvements of the solar cells.
