In Blumstein’s department store in Harlem Izola Curry a mentally ill African American 42-year-old woman approached mlk. He was getting more well known in 1958 as a civil rights leader he met with President Eisenhower on June 23rd of 1958 discussed the civil rights movement he already met with vice president Nixon the year before and then in a bookstore in Harlem his fame almost gets him killed. Izola Curry approaches she asked him if it was really him when he replies yes she says I've been looking for you for five years and then plunges a letter opener deep into his chest a letter opener when police arrived civil rights leader sit in a chair with the letter openers ivory handle still protruding just below his collar bone.
