Memorialization
After the attacks of 9/11, there became an increased need for memorialization in the minds of Americans.13 There are a superfluous amount of memorials to the events of 9/11 including: The 9/11 Memorial, The Flight 93 Memorial, the 9/11 Memorial at the Pentagon, the Firefighters Memorial in Ocean City, the September 11th National Memorial Trail, and hundreds more.14 Almost every state in the United States has its own memorial dedicated to the events of 9/11.15 What this tells us is that 9/11 was not just an event to Americans--it meant so much more.16
The events of 9/11 and its memorialization become the standard by which domestic and foreign policies are upheld to, it is the reason these strict policies are negotiated, and it is the reason for a shift in conservatism in the United States.17 9/11 has created a lasting impact and history on the United States that will not dwindle for many generations to come.
